Christian Counseling for Abandonment and Neglect

For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage.Psalm 94:14

It is a sad reality that abandonment and neglect of many kinds exist in our world. Even where there may not have been physical abuse, there may be scars left by neglect or abandonment. Even worse, the trauma can go unnoticed for years, affecting a person’s life and relationships far beyond the events or conditions that created it.

Types of Abandonment

Spousal abandonment occurs when a person leaves their spouse without warning or justification and is unable to be located after reasonable attempts to find them.

Child abandonment happens when a parent or guardian either exits a child’s life or refuses to provide for the child’s needs, whether physical, emotional, or psychological.

Neglect is any failure (whether willful, careless, or through indifference) to provide for the needs of someone for whom one is responsible.
